To answer your question simply: often. To me, that's one of the big purposes of education: to expose students to things they may not have known about or may not have been interested in previously. Especially as you begin to gain independence and grow to be an adult, you will have lots of freedom to explore the things you could not before, and you may find a new perspective on things you are required to do. That was certainly true for me, at least.
I encourage you to try as much as you can and to continue having that brave, exploratory mindset. Most everyone wishes they had all the time in the world to explore, so do not take the opportunity for granted! Do not forget that trying something is not a commitment, and that your interests may change. Whether it is classes, extracurriculars, and/or hobbies, being a well-rounded individual will greatly benefit you in the future.

Hi Julius,
First, you will discover all kinds of majors and career paths that you had no idea even existed. You may also discover that you like things that were not interesting to you before. It's all part of growing and becoming your own person. Embrace it. Take some time to take different classes or join a friend in their class before you make a decision who and what you want to be.
I hope this helps! All the best to you!

Hi Julius – I totally get what you're saying! Karin is spot on – college offers so many different subjects compared to high school! I started with one major in mind but ended up graduating with a different one!
Plus, new subjects are popping up all the time, and you might find them super interesting. My brother was in college when the AI field was booming, and he got to learn alongside the experts.
You'll definitely discover new passions and interests in college. I took courses in musicology, languages, and even urban farming! Stay open-minded while learning, and you'll have amazing experiences!
