Echo what's been said in the previous answers - the environment is very fast-paced.
You need to be able to write/edit on demand, telling a story with facts and information, all while keeping an eye on time to meet deadlines.

One of the biggest surprises in journalism once you're in the field is how quickly you need to adapt to the pace and uncertainty of news. While in school or training, you may focus heavily on the process of writing, editing, and research, but in practice, journalism is often about quickly adapting to unexpected situations, deadlines, and new information. Stories evolve rapidly, and you must be able to pivot and think on your feet, balancing accuracy with speed.
Another surprise is the amount of responsibility you carry. You’re not just telling stories; you’re shaping how the public understands important issues. That can be both empowering and challenging, as the impact of your work can be far-reaching.
Lastly, the financial aspect of journalism is often more challenging than expected, especially early in one's career. Many journalists face job insecurity or are underpaid, despite the importance of their role in society.

Yes, Ankita is so right about the pace. You have to think on your feet, what's your next question you are going to ask yet also listen to the answer you just received. It is hard to not put yourself first in interviewing situations. It is all about listening and knowing what to ask and really hearing the answer. Journalism is about truth, not opinion.
And also it is a huge responsibility to get the news correct. One time I wrote down the date of an important city event and boy did I get in trouble with my editor! They had to print a retraction and I almost got fired. That was really stressful, but I had to use it as a learning moment and not give up. I kept writing and learned to double check my facts and really listen! Good luck!
