How do you know what scholarship websites are reputable and will actually have scholarships I can recieve?

I feel like I am directed to so many different sites, and I never seem to hear back from them after I apply. I don't know if I am just not receiving them or if they just aren't actually real.

A great place to begin your search for college scholarships is with your school counselor. School counselors will be able to connect you with real / reputable scholarships opportunities that are tailored to students in your area, including both local opportunities and national programs that are relevant to your background and interests. They will also provide guidance on application deadlines and help you put together a strong application. Another valuable resource is the financial aid section of the websites of the colleges you're interested in. Most colleges have their own scholarships, and you can usually find these by visiting their “financial aid office” page online. There, you’ll find information on scholarships for incoming freshmen and upper classmen, merit-based awards, and scholarships tied to specific departments or majors. Exploring these two trusted sources can connect you with real scholarship opportunities.

Hi Terah! You're right, there are tons of websites out there, and it can be tricky to figure out which ones are real. But don't worry! There's an amazing book called "The Ultimate Scholarship Book" (you can get it online or on Kindle) that has tons of scholarships listed. You might be amazed at the different scholarships you can qualify for, like being a middle child or even left-handed. Keep going, and good luck with your search! I'm cheering for you! 😊

Hey Terah! This is a great question:

A few good resources to find real scholarships are as follows:
-Your counselor can provide many legitimate resources for scholarships.
-Many local business will sponsor a few students a year with scholarships.
-Local professional/social groups like Kiwanis, Booster clubs, the local Chamber of Commerce may offer scholarships. Reach out to these groups.
-The financial aid pages of colleges and universities will often show scholarships available, many times these are dedicated for students persuing a certain major, or students from certain backgrounds.

Hi Terah,

Thanks for sharing!

Your college is a great place to start looking for scholarships. They often have resources to help you find trustworthy sites. Try reaching out to a counselor or someone in financial aid—they can guide you to more reliable options.

Keep going! A scholarship is just around the corner. Remember, success often comes just when we feel like giving up. You’re almost there!
