Best certificates for Business Systems Analyst?
I'm currently working as a tax specialist while pursuing a degree in accounting. I'm interested in transitioning into a business systems analyst role and want to build the right skills. Are there specific certificates that would help prepare me for this kind of work? I'm especially interested in process improvement, connecting teams to solutions, and driving efficiency.

To start building the right foundation, I’d recommend pursuing a few certifications that will give you both structure and credibility:
ECBA (Entry Certificate in Business Analysis) from IIBA — this is the best starting point for anyone new to business analysis. It’ll teach you how to gather requirements, document processes, and communicate between business and IT teams.
Six Sigma (Yellow or Green Belt) — this one focuses on process improvement and efficiency. It’s great for learning how to identify and fix inefficiencies in workflows — something every systems analyst does regularly.
As you gain more hands-on experience through internships or projects, you can later look at more advanced certifications like:
CCBA (Certification of Capability in Business Analysis) — once you have some experience.
Agile Analysis Certification (IIBA-AAC) — if you end up working in agile environments. Alongside these, keep practicing soft skills like communication, problem-solving, and teamwork, and get comfortable with tools like Visio or Lucidchart for process mapping.
Ultimately, the goal is to combine your accounting knowledge with analytical and technical skills — so you can bridge the gap between business teams and system developers to make processes more efficient and effective.

I would look into lean six sigma and their certifications. There’s also certifications around the agile methodology that are good. a book i would recommend as well is the Phoenix project it’s a novel that speaks to some of how these might be implemented in a company which some find really helpful. (They just released a sequel as well)

1) Entry Certificate in Business Analysis (ECBA®) – IIBA (https://www.iiba.org/business-analysis-certifications/ecba/)
2) Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP®) – IIBA
Additional certification that could help you are PMI Professional in Business Analysis (PMI-PBA®) and Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP®).
As you are currently starting, I recommend you to apply to ECBA and then, as you start to get more experience decide if you want to move forward with CBAP or PMI-PBA.
