First and foremost you should finish high school. You should also try to get a part time job in a commercial kitchen to see if you like cooking and have the mind set to do it. The real kitchen experience is nothing like home kitchen. I got an associates degree in Culinary Art at Johnson & Wales college. I think it helped me get jobs in the hotels and most of the restaurants I applied to. Now having a degree allows you to move around easier I think because I used it to explain I want more experience and that's why I moved around a lot when I started out to become a chef. I think any kind of certificate or degree in Culinary Arts will help you find the jobs you seek because it shows them you're committed to cooking and serious about it. Get a degree and you'll have a head start in the field without a doubt. Good luck and I hope I was a help. Happy cooking.
