What are the education requirements to get a job as an airline pilot?

After college (and possibly after military service), I'd like to work for an Airline like Delta, or Alaska. I'm still not fully aware of the college educational requirements for getting the job. Any tips?

Thank you comment icon Although most airlines don’t REQUIRE a college degree, most pilots do have one. It can be in any subject; they just want to see that you can complete a long course of study successfully as pilot training requires you to understand weather, aviation law, basic math principles and mechanics. Military service also helps but is not required Courtney Crain

To become an airline pilot, you typically need at least a high school diploma and must complete flight training to earn a private, commercial, and finally an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) license. Many airlines prefer candidates with a bachelor’s degree, though it’s not always required. You’ll also need to log the required flight hours and pass medical and skill tests.

Hello Charles,

There are many different requirements that are needed for most airline pilot jobs. This usually includes being at least 21 years old, passing Background checks, getting a Pilot certification, usually requires a bachelors degree, go through pilot training and much more. Depending on what airline you go to, there might be varying requirements or hours needed but this is for most pilots. Hope this helps and wish you the best when it comes to being an airline pilot!
