Hi Sophia,

If you want to go to college, you'll have to check what's required for your application. SAT or ACT scores are one of the metrics that colleges use to evaluate students. During COVID many colleges went test-optional or no test, but more and more schools are going back to requiring test scores. So, before you intend to apply to college, you need to check if colleges you are interested in require test scores. Chances are, at least some of them will. So, your best bet is to assume that you will need to take the SAT/ACT and prepare for it. Many students take it several times to improve their scores, so build in some buffer for re-takes. As for the cost, fee waivers exist. You can request them yourself or your school counselor will be able to get some for you.

I hope this helps! All the best to you!

Hello, Sophia !

Yes, you will need to take the SAT exam in your Junior year of High School. Not only that, but if you want to be a Psychologist, you'll have to take the GRE, the Graduate Record Exam before you go for your Masters Degree. As for how much the fee is to take these exams, check on it in 4 years for the SAT and check how much the GRE will be in 9 years so you'd know what the fee is for when you take these exams.

Texas colleges vary on their exact requirements about SAT exam results so when you know what college you'll attend, they will let you know if the SAT, ACT or what is required. This is way too soon to give you accurate information and you'd have to know the specific college that you're speaking of.

Texas requires all Psychologists to have a Doctoral Degree, also. You would do this path after your Masters Degree. After completing your Doctorate Degree, you would then need to take the examination for Professional Practice in Psychology in order to be Licensed in Texas. With the career of Psychologist in mind, there will be no way to avoid any exams and there'll be lots of them for your courses in college, too.

Remember that the fees for exams like SAT or GRE are usually not that high and they are required during your path to become a Psychologist. Right now, today as we speak, the SAT costs $68.00 to take but you're not going to take it until 4 years from now. So sit tight and keep exploring !

Best wishes in all you do !
