What is the best method to study human anatomy?
I am taking human anatomy because I want to be a physical therapist, and I am worried I will not be able to memorize everything.

Hi Emma! If you're a visual learner, 1. purchase a skeleton! They may have some on Facebook marketplace. You can move things around, and label things yourself! 2. Doing quizzes online will help you memorize and repeat! 3. Have AI make podcasts for you or quizzes for certain subjects you're struggling with. Example, can you make me a podcast about the muscles in the arm. 4. YouTube videos! There are SO SO many mnemonics. In high school I tried so so hard to learn the forearm muscles but they never "clicked." I found so many videos on YouTube and would write them out. Truly helped me a lot and this is what I should've done before. You don't have to memorize much, focus on mnemonics and it may click!

It depends on what kind of learner you are! Flash cards? Writing and rewriting? Having someone quiz you? Word games such as acronyms, funny phrases that help you remember say, all the muscles of the posterior compartment.
One visual learning tool I recommend is the app Pocket Anatomy. You can zoom in, rotate the body, see layers such as muscle/nerve/bone, switch between male/female, etc. I keep it on my phone and reference it whenever I need to.
I also think it is helpful to relate it to your own body. Find your own hamstring. From there, ask yourself what is its innervation? Where does this muscle originate, and where does it end? Or look at a partners body. Relate the information to what you have right in front of you.

I really like the above answer and all the strategies she recommended! One thing that helped me study human anatomy was Quizlet. There are a lot of existing decks out there that you can search for, or you can make your own. You can even copy someone’s existing deck and duplicate it so you can tweak it a bit to your liking. I used this for rote memorization, and each card was specific to only one item. For example, the front would be “biceps brachii - innervation?” and the answer on the back would be “musculocutaneous nerve”. You can also add pictures to the back to help. Keeping the flashcards simple is best. I found that this was one of the best ways to learn anatomy because a lot of it relies on memorization. You should definitely supplement with other forms of studying like visual pictures, quizzes, anatomy coloring books, etc to view information in a variety of forms to help you learn better. Good luck!
