When is the right time to pursue an education, or follow your career path?

Would the right time be soon after high school, after a short break, or a little time after to soak in life's experiences?

Hi Odaymis. It really depends on your goals, how ready you feel, and what's happening in your life. Some people prefer to go straight into college or training after high school. They're already used to studying and want to keep that momentum going. Starting right away can help you stay focused and move faster toward your career goals, especially if you already know what you want to do. This path is great for those who are sure about their direction and feel ready to commit to more learning.

However, not everyone is ready to make that decision so soon. Taking a short break, often called a "gap year," can be a good idea. During this time, you could work, volunteer, travel, or try new things. A break like this helps you learn about yourself, gain life experience, and see what interests you most. It can also make you more confident and sure about what you want to study or what kind of career you want to build. Sometimes stepping away from school for a little while helps you return with a clearer purpose and stronger motivation.

For others, the best time to go back to school or focus on a career might be later in life. Many adults return to study after working, raising families, or exploring different paths. By then, they usually have a better idea of what they want and why it matters to them. Learning as an adult can feel more meaningful because you can connect what you study to your real-life experiences. You're more focused and determined because you've seen how education can open new doors.

The most important thing to remember is that there's no deadline for learning. Education and career growth can happen at any age or stage of life. The "right time" is when you feel ready to take that step. All the best.

Regardless if you go for a degree or experience the world first, that will be a choice of opportunity which you make internally. It is the ultimate goal that you must think of. Not 5 years, Ten years, but 20+ years when your older wiser and with baggage to haul. Time is much like an ATM which you can not refill. When Time Is Up, Its Up.

In my extensive career, not once have I heard anyones last words as "I Should Have Spent More Time At The Office" or "At School"

It is without a doubt the most important practice to visualize youself in the in the future at very moment of accomplishment. a little older, much wiser and content with what you have achieved.
See yourself looking back at all the step it took to get to that very point. Dont forget to include lifes obstacles as well which tested your versatility.
See the type of people in your life who you chose to follow as well as those you lead when they chose to follow you.

Yes its just a subliminal vision to active your minds eye, but it will lead you to know what direction can be taken as well as avoided. The ducation is in the living, not the paper one printed on. Experinece is earned by doing but too many end up doing what they would never do, because the chsed paper & recognition. Yet the majority of millionaires in this contry and many others left college to follow their dreams and make it happen.

Steward "Tony"’s Answer

When setting up a game plan for your life, there are no wrong answers. Anyone swaying you from choice by suggesting that their way is the only way is misleading based on arrogance maybe? I am no rocket scientists but I have hired many who have shared with me at various points that their PhD cost them more than what the title was worth. As one who has spoken at colleges for graduating classes, I never speak about successes or education because the forum is not about tooting my horn. I give advice from my F-100 experience, my military background and my climb from NYC street to celebrity clubhouses. You be successful in reach your selected goals, but be true now about the path you will want to take, be it education, trades, professions, business and or adventure. Live is much more than a degree, not that it’s a bad thing, but it is a venture in time. Your time. Like a debit card that will run out when exhausted.
What ever you do is the right decision. No regrets as your path is already set. Be the best you can be with yourself and with the people around you. As a leader, You can reach the peak of a montane but if you are alone, you most failed. Ego is indeed bad company. Semper Fi!
