Will an honors program give me extra work?

I have a chronic illness so I don't want to do more than what I can handle.

Hello, Marilyn !

A college Honors Program is more rigorous. You would be expected to keep up a very high GPA also. Honors programs add extra academic and co-curricular demands, such as completing a thesis or capstone project and accelerated course work.

It would be more work than a regular program because Honors Programs are designed for exceptionally motivated and high achieving students who want a more in depth and robust learning experience than you would find in regular classes. It is 100% perfectly okay to enroll in a regular college program.

To alleviate any worry about this, to test the waters, try taking a light load in your first semester of a regular program. You can try 4 courses, one in your Major and three General Education Requirements. See how that goes and you can build on or decrease as the semesters progress.

You seem to already have good insight about this, so go with your instincts and coordinate a comfortable schedule for your college experience. And remember, there are supports on campus for individuals that have a disability so you can reach out for assistance or special accommodations whenever needed.

I hope this helps and I wish you all the best !
