Create a daily plan for all your activities, including study time. Stick to your plan and try not to postpone tasks. This helps prevent confusion and distractions. Make sure to include time for family, friends, events, and enough sleep.

Devin’s Answer

Hello Madison,

That is a great question that every new college student faces. I am currently a third-year student studying Business Administration at University of California, Irvine. When I first entered college, I was afraid of difficult professors, finding new friends, and just being able to enjoy my college-life to the fullest.

The way I best prepared for this was doing research on each of my classes before registering for them. I would use word-of-mouth recommendations from a few upperclass students I've befriended, and I used ratemyprofessors.com to search up the ratings of each professor. This allowed me to optimize my class schedule with the best professors to help me learn and pass the courses. I also recommend to find classes that will fit your schedule, meaning to look at the class hours to check if they clash with your club or social activities. Avoid morning classes (my personal preference).

The way I was able to find new friends and develop a better social life at college was joining clubs. This can range from academic/business clubs to greek-life. I personally joined one academic club, one sports club, and I did try to rush a fraternity; however, I was unable to get in. I would most definitely recommend trying to join clubs and meet your friends from there! You can also befriend your classmates and maybe even form study groups.

I hope this made you feel more prepared for college!

Hi Madison. Living in a dorm is a big change, and it's important to be ready for the challenges and freedoms it offers. You need to think about what you need for living in a dorm. You'll want to pack the basics like clothes, toiletries, and bedding. You can check with your school to see what's already provided in the dorm, like furniture or appliances, so you don't bring too much.

When it comes to classes, college can be very different from high school. You'll have more independence and less hand-holding from teachers. To stay on top of things, you can use a planner or digital calendar to keep track of assignments, deadlines, and exams. It’s also important to develop study habits that work for you, for example, setting aside regular study time or finding quiet spots on campus where you can focus. Don't be afraid to ask professors or teaching assistants for help if you don't understand something. The earlier you ask for help, the better.

College is also about meeting new people and having fun, but it can be tricky to balance social life with schoolwork. There will be lots of events and opportunities to make new friends, but you don't have to say yes to everything. It's ok to take breaks and have some time for yourself. Also, if you ever feel stressed, many schools offer counseling services or student groups to help you connect with others and manage your feelings.

Wishing you all the best.

Remember, it will be like a huge ocean overloaded with information, things and people so you got to enjoy the journey while maintaining your individuality. This time will help you shape up your personality. Do not fret, step into the world with great confidence and belief in yourself and trust the process. College is a place where people end up meeting their BFF hence remain curious and excited to meet them. Almost everyone in their life will always miss their college life since it is so valuable hence make the most of it. Cheers!

Thank you for your question. Many students have similar question when promoting from high school to college.
Below are my suggestions :
1. Join the orientation programs organized by the student council or department. It can help you to familiar the college and make new friends
2. Walk round the campus to get yourself familiar with the campus and facilities
3. Explore any recreational clubs you have interest and participate
4. If you will stay on dorm, move in early to collaborate with your hall mates
5. Review the course syllabus of 1st year and prepare
Hope this helps! Good Luck!
May Almighty God bless you!
