How can I make friends with more confidence in college?
I am a senior in high school, and I struggle to make new friends because of my anxiety. I often feel like I need to change myself to suit others around me. I want to find my people and be able to stick with them with the confidence that they will always be there for me and not betray me or ignore me, like has happened in the past.

Hello! A simple way to meet new people is to join clubs, activities, or classes where you're likely to share something in common with others. This makes starting conversations easier because you already have something to talk about. Building confidence also comes from practicing small, simple social steps. You don't need to make best friends right away. You can start by saying hello to the person sitting next to you, asking someone about their major, or asking a simple question like "How are you liking this class?" Small moments like these can help you feel more comfortable over time.
When it comes to trusting others, you don't have to open up too fast or rely on someone right away. Instead, pay attention to how people act over time. Are they respectful? Do they listen? Do they include you without you having to try too hard? These small signs show who is truly worth trusting. While no friendship can promise that nothing will ever change, you can choose people who show through their actions that they care about you. And as your confidence grows, you'll attract friends who like you for who you are, without you having to pretend or change yourself.
