How do you keep your creativity flowing as a fashion designer, while also maintaining life and business?

I am a college student currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in business, with the goal of double-majoring in business and fashion merchandising. I also want to own my own fashion boutique.

First off, don't condemn yourself if you don't perfectly do it right. I would suggest taking your time while learning, not haphazardly mind you, but don't get in a frenzy of always doing.
You also need time to think, reflect and create. I would do much research around opening up a boutique and what responsibilities and costs are involved. I wouldn't try opening one up so quickly as I'm sure cost and time are limited unless you're wealthy but I would do a little bit of what I could do get started like save for future endeavors, build up my credit score, get a business license, attend workshops, etc. regarding opening a boutique, visit others who already own one and ask their expertise, or perhaps see if you could work in a boutique.

Learn all you can about creating fashion first while researching how boutiques run. Once you finish school I would offer my line in the boutiques to perhaps do a fashion run. Also learn about other needed careers in the fashion realm that you could do that might not be so glamorous but could get you in the door of a major company while learning more about the profession.

I hope this helps.

Renee recommends the following next steps:

Complete degree while researching about boutiques
Keep your inspiration and creativity high by approaching others who already own boutiques of any kind, even resale, so you can learn and grow. Ask questions
Create a fashion line that can freely be used by boutiques for fashion runs
Learn other trades or professions behind the scenes in fashion design
Know why you want to do this, stay inspired, stay passionate and don't give up.
