Hello, Parker !

If you are in high school, your best bet would be to find a volunteer position as a tutor or teacher's assistant in the schools around where you live. Try both public and private schools. Internships are for people in their Junior and Senior year in college, but if you will be majoring in Education, part of that path is an experience in Student Teaching - not exactly an Internship, but hands on experience teaching.

You could also inquire about a volunteer position as a sports coach assistant. Other possible volunteer opportunities can be looked into at The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Washington. They have programs where volunteers can support youth in areas like the Art Room, Learning Center, Game Room, Sports and Fitness, and Technology Lab. Also try Junior Achievement of Washington. Great Life Mentoring is a volunteer program through the City of Vancouver, WA through which you would be connected with children aged 9–16 in Clark County, WA, who have experienced trauma or difficult circumstances, offering a stable and supportive relationship. All of the volunteer work in your town seems very beneficial and great foundational experience for before college and during.

If you eventually want to coach sports, play and learn a few of the more popular sports. The better and more sports you know how to play, the better you can coach. In my high school which was many decades ago, our Health Science teacher was the coach for sports at our high school. Find out at the various high schools around you how they choose the coach, how many coaches they have for what sports, etc.

So remember, there are no Internships for this career and you will have Student Teaching instead. Student teaching in Washington State is usually completed during the final year of a Teacher Preparation program, which can be an undergraduate, post baccalaureate, or masters program. But you are fortunate in that your town has a lot of opportunity to gain experience through the programs I mentioned.

I hope this helps and I wish you all the best for this awesome career !
