How do you know what subject or grade is best to teach How can I know what would be best for myself based on my personality? How do I know what school to teach at?
I feel like becoming a teacher in early education is the best choice for me but I don’t know what subject or grade to teach. I would love some help finding what is the best fit for me.

Hi,
You may want to do a bit of exploration while you're still in school or deciding. Have you talked to your school counselor about finding internships or part time placements in elementary or pre-schools? That might be a good way to earn credits for your transcript and get some experience. The other option is to volunteer at a youth organization or program, like a daycamp, summer camp, YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, local park district, or religious after-school programs/summer programs.
For me, I worked in local museum's education department, a local library and then volunteered with several youth organizations in my city. I found that while I LOOOOVVVEE babies and little ones, as far as teaching, I preferred high school age students. I think this is because I like being able to have thoughtful conversations and debates (I taught English, Writing, History and Theater). I will say even when teaching HS full time, I still found a program on Saturdays to volunteer with little ones. As far as what subject to teach, I chose what I loved the most....my favorite subjects.

Greetings Amelia:
Thank you for your question. Finding the subject that you want to teach is based on what you like. What subjects did you enjoy, and which subjects did you excel in when you were in school?
As far as the grade , that is also your preference. If you are unsure I would suggest doing volunteer work. Find an organization where you can be involved with all children. From there, you will know what grade level you prefer. Thank you for your question and good luck!!

Even though I'm no longer a teacher, I have a degree in Elementary Education and taught for five years before changing careers. My best advice is to focus on the age group you're passionate about, but also think about how you can make a difference beyond the classroom. Teachers do much more than just teach lessons; they are supporters, confidants, protectors, guides, nurses, and leaders in children's lives. Do you want to help little ones learn to walk? Are you excited about teaching math skills that will help them succeed later? Do you want to guide them in choosing a career path? Asking yourself these questions can help you find the right direction. Good luck—no matter what path you choose, you'll make a difference!
