What would be the easiest, becoming a nurse practitioner or registered nurse?

I don't want to be in school for a long time, but my goal is to become a nurse practitioner.

You must first get your RN before you can get your nurse practitioner.

Michele’s Answer

Good morning,
Registered nurse is the first level licensed nursing. To obtain an RN you have to first graduate from either a two-year associate degree program or four-year bachelor degree program in nursing. Either degree is a pre-requisite to sitting for the NCLEX (national licensing examination) that is required to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in a particular state.

Most people will work as an RN first to gain real life experience and then go back to pursue their graduate level degree. Most Nurse Practitioner programs will require you have the RN license prior to applying to an NP program. There are some exceptions to that and education requirements are always changing.

Good luck as you pursue these career opportunities.
