How can I get connected with local or online internships in biological research?

I am a high school senior in Portland, Oregon, and interested in pursuing a career in biological research. I would love to find opportunities to explore this field through laboratory internships or jobs during Summer 2026. I am open to local or online experiences.

Consider exploring local universities in Portland, like OHSU, and reaching out to professors to share your interest and relevant courses. Programs such as OHSU's STEMPrep Internship, the Ted R. Lilley CURE Program, and the Gibbs Lab Fluorescence Molecular Imaging Internship offer great hands-on summer research experiences. You can also look into remote research through platforms like Polygence. Other exciting summer programs include the Boyce Thompson Institute, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, and the Salk Institute, which provide structured lab internships. Using LinkedIn, Handshake, or Glassdoor to find internships is a smart move. Joining science clubs, entering competitions, and attending virtual workshops or webinars by research institutions are also fantastic ways to connect with others and find new opportunities.
