What courses should i take in high school to pursue my nursing career?

Hi, I'm wondering what courses to take cause I've been taking quite a number of math, and I don't think I need math in the nursing field, or do I? That's another question.

Hi , I would recommend you take her following classes.
Sciences: Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology (if available), and Physics.
· Math: Through Algebra II, plus Statistics if possible.
· English: All four years for strong communication skills.
· Social Sciences: Psychology and Sociology.
· Electives: Medical Terminology, Public Speaking, or a Foreign Language (Spanish is very useful).

Hello there and great question :)

Nursing has a major focus on the science course being your biology & chemistry courses. Other courses that can be helpful for your future education in the nursing field is math ( specifically Statistics & basic Algebra) , psychology, sociology, nutrition, philosophy, & communication courses.

The major science courses to needed to be taken in college before applying to a nursing program here in my area were Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Inorganic Chemistry, and Microbiology.

If you want to pursue a nursing career, here are the most helpful high-school courses to take:

1. Core Science Courses

Biology – the most important for nursing

Chemistry – helpful for medications and lab work

Anatomy & Physiology (if available)

Physics – optional but useful

2. Math Courses

Algebra

Statistics – very helpful in nursing school

3. Health & Medical Courses

(if your school offers them)

Health science

Medical terminology

First aid/CPR

4. English & Communication

English/literature

Speech or communication

5. Extra Helpful Courses

Psychology or sociology

Nursing is a wonderful career choice.

If you're thinking about becoming a nurse, it's a good idea to focus on science classes in high school, like biology, chemistry, and anatomy. Math is also important to help with calculations. Check if your school offers courses in Medical Terminology or a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program. These can really boost your college application.

Hi Josh,

Since you are already in the PLTW BCA program (Biomedical Medical Career) program and aiming to go to nursing school, you should focus on your science and (yes) math classes. You'll need mostly biology, chemistry and medical classes to prepare for nursing school. Languages and social sciences and communication would also be beneficial.
