Hello again, Ali !

There is no answer to this question but I can explain why. I am happy to know that you are continuing to explore this career and so far your inquiries are based on money.

People that go into becoming a Surgeon in the United States have a sort of spiritual and intellectual calling for it. It's also based on altruism and the strong need to make a difference in people's lives. I would say that the many successful surgeons in the U.S. never gave the thought before they started as to what salary they would have. A strong understanding of the work can make this career more clear to you and being well informed about the work and the position will help.

It's impossible to say surgeons make X amount per year, because they don't. A Surgeon's money is based on many, many things. It depends on whom they are employed by. It depends on their surgical specialty. It depends on how many hospitals they have privileges at. It depends if they do both out-patient and in hospital surgery. It depends on what state, city or town they work in and the volume of their work. It depends on if they have just a specialty or in addition a subspecialty. They can make money by consulting or advising. They can serve as an expert witness in court. Developing new medical devices and conducting utilization management or chart reviews, and participating in paid medical surveys. These can all be done at various times while being a surgeon so it's impossible to know salary. Also remember the possible bonuses I discussed in my first response to your other inquiry. Surgeons also bring in some income by doing clinical research, second opinion services, or by contributing to health tech innovation, including digital health startups. These can happen any day of the month.

It may help you to determine whether or not to become a surgeon by taking a deep dive into the work surgeons do because that's what you'd be spending your time doing. Watch some videos about being a surgeon on You Tube and read some books about what it entails. If you think this career is for you and you're not determining it by the money, you can plan a pre-med path for college and then go to Medical School.

So, to become a successful Surgeon in the United States, you do not need to know an iron clad dollar amount of a salary, you need to have a strong interest in life sciences and a firm need to make a difference in people's lives. I hope this helps and I wish you all the best exploring this career !

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports a broad average for all physicians and surgeons, not specific neurosurgeon compensation; Other sources like Barton Associates, AMN Healthcare, and Salary.com show neurosurgeon salaries as averaging around $700,000 annually, with top earners exceeding $1 million. Please bear in mind that the exact figures vary significantly by experience, location, and practice type.

Key Compensation Insights:
High Earnings: Neurosurgeons are among the highest-paid doctors, with reports indicating averages from $720,000 to over $760,000 yearly as of late 2024/2025.
Factors Influencing Pay: Location (e.g., Florida, California), years of experience, specialization (e.g., spine, cranial), and practice setting (hospital vs. private) greatly affect total earnings.
