Suzana’s Answer

Hi Eze,

Like Phil says: AI is changing everything. At the moment Computer Science majors have some of the highest unemployment rates, due to the fact that AI has slashed the number of positions that require the Software Engineer's set of skills. We are all slowly coming to an understanding that the jobs of the future are the ones that require service and hands-on labor, and a lab-tech job might be more secure in that aspect. Having said that, of course, knowing how to use modern tech to advance your daily tasks will come in useful in any career, medical lab science included.

My advice is to focus on medical science, but take as many opportunities as come your way to learn AI/tech/software as it will help you no matter what direction you take.

Phil’s Answer

AI is changing everything. If I were you, I'd learn about software, AI, and online businesses while working in a stable field like medical laboratory sciences.

You don't need a college degree to create something, but it's important to understand basic engineering skills like problem-solving, understanding requirements, and asking questions. These skills are useful in many areas.

Right now, hard work and persistence will help you get ahead. I believe you can manage both software learning and a medical lab career.

In software engineering, there's a saying: "trust but verify." Trust your instincts, but check the results.

Danielle’s Answer

Medical Lab Science ia an excellent career. There is longevity and job security which many find attractive You may seek to become a Lab Director in the future which allows you to direct multiple labs remotely. This means that you can live in TX and be the lab Director for a lab in TX, LA, AL all at once (for example). This means you would be commanding 3 salaries at once!

Software Engineering however is growing at an incredible pace, which means the job is in very very high demand. The median salary is higher and the opportunities to branch out on your own are greater. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, S.E.s make well into 6-figures.

None of this is guaranteed but hopefully you'll find this helpful.

Lastly, I will say there is much to be said for choosing the career which draws and engages you. In many cases, you spend more time with your work than with your loved ones. The last thing you want is to dedicate years of study and end up miserable. Choose the path that will bring you long term satisfaction. The rest will fall into place.

Danielle recommends the following next steps:

Sagarika’s Answer

Hello eze ,

Hope you are dong well . Both courses are good, but the “better and easier” one depends on what you like.
Software Engineering -
1. More job opportunities
2. Higher salary potential
3. You can work remotely
4. Best if you enjoy computers and problem‑solving

Medical Laboratory Science -
1.Stable hospital/lab jobs
2. Best if you enjoy biology, chemistry, and hands‑on lab work

My advise - Software engineering usually offers more and faster job opportunities, but choose the one that matches what you enjoy doing.

All the best :)
