Laila’s Answer

Congrats on reaching your final year, Badiri! Moving from Industrial Engineering to jobs in process optimization, project management, or data analysis is a smooth transition. Your degree gives you a solid base, and now you're just adding to your skills.

To connect school with work, try beginner courses on Coursera. Look into Lean Six Sigma for optimization, Google's Project Management certificate, and Data Analytics courses covering SQL and Power BI. Use LinkedIn to meet professionals in your field of interest and learn from their experiences. I'd love to hear about your progress as you explore these exciting careers!

Laila recommends the following next steps:

Create or update your LinkedIn profile with a headline that highlights your technical background and your passion for process optimization and data analysis.
Enroll in a Lean Six Sigma or Google Project Management introductory course on Coursera to gain a recognized certification that complements your BEng degree.
Reach out to three alumni from your university who are currently working as Industrial Engineers or Business Analysts to ask for a brief informational interview.
Build a small portfolio project using a public dataset to demonstrate your data analysis skills, showing how you would optimize a specific business process or supply chain.
