As a high school sophomore, how often should I be sending emails to D3 schools?
If coaches are not responding, should I stop messaging entirely after a year? 6 months? or just reduce frequency?
I am a 2028 volleyball setter starting the recruiting process (prob going d3)

Hi Hadley, that's a good question, and it's great that you're already considering recruiting as a sophomore. For D3 schools, it's best to email coaches about once a month to stay visible without being too persistent. Make sure each email includes something new, such as updated stats, tournament schedules, highlights, or academic achievements, since coaches prefer not to receive repetitive messages. If a coach doesn't respond, don't take it personally and keep reaching out, as D3 coaches often have smaller staffs and many emails to manage. If you've contacted a school for around six months with no reply, you can reduce your emails to once every couple of months, but only stop if you're no longer interested. Also, D3 recruiting usually starts later than D1 or D2, so coaches may not engage until your junior or senior year; patience is important. Attending camps and clinics at your preferred schools can help, as meeting coaches in person can make a difference. Starting early is a smart move, so stay consistent!
