The best school is the one that accepts you! While staying in San Francisco is ideal, expanding your search area can greatly increase your chances in this competitive field. In the Bay Area, the UCSF/SFSU joint program is a fantastic public option to help save on costs. Samuel Merritt in Oakland and Touro in Vallejo are also great choices nearby. Be sure to check the APTA or PTCAS directories to compare tuition rates. Finding a state school or a program with lower costs can really help when managing loans later. Good luck with your applications!

The best PT school to go to is the one that accepts you!
You state that you don't want to go too far away from San Francisco area, but I would encourage you to be a bit more flexible in consideration of PT schools to attend. Acceptance into PT school is highly competitive and one good way to increase your potential for acceptance is to apply to a number of schools. The APTA website (APTA.org) has a listing of all schools, so please consult that list and see if you can expand your application circle a bit wider.
The fact remains that PT school is expensive. But the tuition costs vary widely. Always consider a state school whose tuition, while still expensive, may be more reasonable to manage as an expense or a loan payment later. You will still have a PT degree when you finish at a less costly school.
Good luck in your search!
