Is acting still available without AI? Can I become an actress at this age?
Hi, I’m a 8th grade middle school student, I would really want to be an actress because I love old movies like Harry Potter and Sandalot because it feels real and true without AI. I mean Harry Potter had animation but that is good because animators put a lot of time and effort into their work. I just love movies that feel real and have a good story line. Many movies I watch with my parents are actually enjoyable and fun to watch but movies now it feels not as enjoyable because I feel directors don’t put a lot of time on their movies and shows. So I want to be an actor to bring back the good old movies and bring creativity and passion back to life. Also I wonder will AI take over our creativity and passion because lately I been seeing AI more than artists and animators. I also heard that AI is been taking over business I feel that we are using AI than our own brains too much which scares me. So I really hope we don’t let AI run our lives.

Thank you for sharing such thoughtful questions. The fact that you’re already thinking about creativity, storytelling, and the future of film tells me you’re a very curious and reflective person - and those are wonderful qualities for a creative professional.
Acting is definitely still possible today, and passionate performers are still very much needed. Technology, including AI, may change some tools in filmmaking, but it cannot fully replace real human emotion, imagination, and the connection actors create with an audience.
If acting truly interests you, a great first step is simply to try it. You might join a local theatre group, participate in a school play, or take a short acting class (online or in person). This will help you see if you enjoy the crazy rhythm of rehearsals, performing in front of others, daily pressire and the teamwork involved in making a story come to life.
One honest thing to know about acting is that it involves a lot of auditions and self-tapes, and many of them don’t work out. Even very successful actors hear “no” most of the time - sometimes 98 out of 100 auditions don’t lead to a role. That’s normal in this profession. The key is enjoying the craft itself and being willing to keep learning and trying again. There are a lot of actors - sometimes just self-proclaimed and untrained - but there is very few of trained and working actors.
It’s also wise to have a second path alongside acting, ideally something connected to film or theatre. For example, you could learn about how productions are organized, help out on a film set as a production assistant, or explore areas like directing, writing, or production, or administrative work at threatre. Understanding how a film set /theatre works actually makes you a better actor, too.
Another helpful thing for future actors is learning the business side of the arts - how contracts work, how to manage your career, and how to protect your rights. In many ways, actors run their own one-person businesses. Try IFTA and Sundance low to no cost classes.
Definitely try things, stay creative, and don’t be afraid to follow what inspires you.
Best wishes,
Dora

I understand your concern over AI replacement; however, it is also important to remember that uniqueness is what overshadows and is the most defining feature of humanity. Given that you are currently in 8th grade, it is also important to note that you still have so much time. I would recommend that you begin getting involved in clubs, especially when you get to high school. You don't have to join a lot, just choose clubs that have the most impact on the community or school, in general. Also, you could join the school's theatre, drama clubs, or even get into public speaking classes. Of course, you should still aim to have good academic standing as well as keep yourself healthy!
You can also join acting classes that are nearby, or perhaps learn to voice-act online and do it consistently. There are many resources out there to help you, so do not be afraid to reach out!
Good luck :D

The great news is that you have control over your own choices. AI can be a helpful tool for organizing your life and career. Use it for tasks like making schedules, writing emails, or doing research. This way, you can focus on growing your creative skills and pursuing what you love, whether it's acting, animating, or something else that excites you.
Also, try to use AI in ways that support, not harm, other creatives like artists and musicians. If acting is your passion, focus on learning the skills that bring authenticity and humanity to your work. Remember, the most unique and irreplaceable part of your craft is you.
Best of luck! I'm rooting for you. Go for it!
