Is a Master's Degree required to become a speech pathologist?

I am a senior in high school and speech pathology has caught my interest as a career option. I believe I have a passion for helping people, but getting a Master's Degree is making me reluctant to get into speech pathology since I want a family in the future. Can you be a speech pathologist with a Bachelor's Degree, or is the education worth it?

Hi Sela.
Speech pathology is very rewarding. Yes, a masters is required. Look into a speech pathology assistant program if you do not wish to get a masters.

I earned a masters while working in the field at a school, two kids in sports and a husband. It worked out! In hindsight, I would have like to completed my masters before having kids.

May your wishes come true!

Yes a masters degree is required as entry level in to the field of Speech language pathology. Many schools now offer a five year program and you will graduate with your masters degree. The education is worth it. It’s an excellent career with endless opportunities.
