What are some things to know before attending a higher level of education?
I want to know what other options there are besides attending college, and what should I know before going to college. Additionally, I want to know what are some useful things to accomplish or should prioritize that can be helpful on my journey.

Hi Jiajun! I like that you're thinking about this early because there's actually a lot more out there beyond just the traditional college route. First off, alternatives to college include trade schools, apprenticeships, coding bootcamps, professional certifications, and even jumping straight into the workforce to gain real world experience. From my own journey, I can tell you that some of the most valuable things on my resume aren't just my degrees but the professional certifications I've earned along the way, and those are things you can pursue with or without a college degree. Now if you do decide to go the college route, here's what I wish someone had told me: prioritize your GPA because it opens doors to scholarships, fellowships, and top programs down the line. Also, get real work experience as early as possible through internships or entry level roles because I started as a purchasing analyst right out of college and that hands-on experience taught me things the classroom never could, and it set me up to grow into consulting and tech roles later on. Another thing I'd say is don't underestimate the opportunity of going abroad or stepping outside your comfort zone, because I did a semester abroad during undergrad and shaped my perspective and career in ways I never expected. Lastly, focus on building skills that are transferable no matter what path you take, things like problem solving, data analysis, communication, and project management, because those will serve you well once you join the workforce. You've got this!
