I did not show up for an interview ?

Hi all. Amidst this job application season + school + family issues, my schedule is packed and I have to act on things very quickly.

Recently, instead of booking a job interview on that day itself, I accidentally booked it the next day (digitally, on Gcal).

I am feeling so terribly stressed because I need to find a job + my schedule is not freeing things up either. I am not willing to let this opportunity go because it has been a long time coming that I get to be interviewed for a role I’m especially interested in.

Would love to know how you’d communicate the genuine mistake to your interviewer based on your experiences. Appreciate it 🙏

Edit: Dug a little deeper and found out that my greatest fear may not be necessarily not getting the job (which means a mental and physical break for me), but getting blacklisted in the company/companies in the industry

When someone misses an interview with me, it definitely doesn’t look good at first — but what makes the biggest difference is whether they reach out right away with a genuine apology and a brief explanation. If I’m truly interested in a candidate and they handle the mistake professionally, I’ll usually reschedule.
Just keep in mind that employers often judge reliability based on first impressions. Missing an interview can make them wonder how dependable you’d be on the job, so be ready to address that. A simple, honest message like, “I made a scheduling error, and I take full responsibility. I’m still very interested in this role and would appreciate the opportunity to reschedule,” can go a long way.
Own the mistake, be sincere, and show that it won’t happen again — that’s your best chance of keeping the opportunity open.

Take a deep breath; what you're experiencing is completely normal. It's important to contact the interviewers soon to apologize and take responsibility for your mistake. Let them know you're still very interested in the position and suggest some times when you're available to reschedule. This can make it easier for them to find a new time.

1. Admit the mistake briefly—no excuses or lengthy explanations.
2. Fix it quickly—the sooner, the better.
3. Respect their time.
4. Stay confident—everyone makes mistakes.

You've got this!

Always remember that it's okay to make mistakes. However, what's not okay is hiding the mistake that you made. Given your situation, please write back to the interviewer ASAP apologizing for not being able to make it to the interview. Along with that, please also list some more days/times that works for you so that they can reschedule the interview, and let them know that you're grateful for being considered for the role.

This shows that you can be held accountable for your actions, whether that be missing an interview, but at the same time, you're also responsible and mindful for not wasting the interviewer's time - this is why you took the moment to reach out to them to request for rescheduling the interview.

Good luck!
