Steward "Tony"’s Answer

Leadership is number one!
If you lead a team to the top of the mountain but you are alone, you failed. This skill caused those you coach to want to get to the top with you. That’s the motivation factor, your leadership abilities!

Liam’s Answer

Hey Gabriel -- Previous college diver here 👋🏼 It will obviously vary from coach to coach, but at the highest level, coaches are often looking for someone who is (a) reliable, (b) honest, (c) coachable, (d) humble, and (e) on top of their studies. So, I would say strive to hit these pillars, and you should be someone that coaches have an easy time recruiting and ultimately bringing aboard!

I know it sounds cliche to say "stay out of trouble"; so, instead, I'll encourage you to listen to your teachers and coaches, and be professional in your communications/meetings as you start to engage with college coaches. They want to bring someone aboard who they know won't cause them any problems once you're part of the team. The easiest way for them to see that is by seeing that you have a strong track record prior to coming on campus.
