If you're thinking about becoming a therapist, it's a good idea to try therapy yourself first to see if you enjoy helping people that way. Next, look into the difference between becoming a therapist with a master's degree (2 years of study) like LCSW/LMSW or LPC/LMHC, and a PhD (6 years of study) like PhD vs PsyD. Check out the courses and teachers at different schools to find programs that match what you're interested in. Also, consider which groups of people you want to work with, whether it's broad groups like children, adults, or seniors, or more specific ones like kids with autism, adults with multiple sclerosis, or seniors with dementia.
