This can become difficult to start on but there is a really good answer I am hoping I can show you and others will just follow along and do their research themselves.
Your profile says you are in Roseau MN. So I go to this link and find what jurisdiction your local IBEW is in:
https://ibew.org/inside-jurisdictional-maps/
The IBEW or International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers are the trade union that represent most electrical construction workers in the United States. They will have an associated apprenticeship you should aim for when it comes to your training.
This document says you are part located in the IBEW Local 1426 area of your state:
https://ibew.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/MN_Inside_Final-.pdf
From there we go to the IBEW Local 1426 website and see what information they have:
https://www.ibew1426.org/
The next site we want to look up is their associated JATC with that jurisdiction. We find this site:
https://dakotasjatc.org/
The JATC is the Joint Apprenticeship Training Center, they are put together by NECA (National Electrical Contractors Association) and the IBEW to train people. They will bring you in from nothing and get you prepared for your career.
A document that came up on a light google search was this:
https://core-docs.s3.amazonaws.com/documents/asset/uploaded_file/1521346/JATC_Electrical_Apprenticeship.pdf
This gives the specific requirements for the program. Even though it is a little old the requirements will be roughly the same.
There are other programs but the JATC will link you up with a job, get you the hours you need for a license, give you the training you need to be on that job, and start your life as an electrician. I really recommend them for a start and think it is the best way to move into being an electrician as a career.
One side note. You have a large state. Your local is actually based in North Dakota which is cool except that means you may need to travel far for work and there might not be a lot of consistent work in your immediate area. I don't know MN at all so you will have to answer this for yourself. The one thing I do know about MN is that Minneapolis is a city with a lot going on and usually that means there are a lot of electrician jobs there as well. You may wish to investigate moving to an area where there is consistent work and then seeing about joining the apprenticeship there. I did this and it served me well. I moved about four states south and started my career in a place I never even thought about living and topped off my apprenticeship having done some amazing jobs. Again, you need to answer this for yourself but you should consider this when applying.
