MAJ Markeith’s Answer

Hello. As a freshman, you have plenty of time ahead of you and are asking at the right time. The key for internships and jobs is networking. You’ll learn in life that establishing and building relationships are crucial in amplifying your chances of securing a role by separating yourself from the pack of others who may blindly apply and become simply nameless faceless numbers in a que. You can accomplish this by utilizing LinkedIn and joining company pages and groups for the organization you plan to apply to. Attend any networking mixers. Introduce yourself and your desires to be selected for a role. People with connections you with the decision makers. This gives you a huge leg up over others. Utilize your school’s advisors, as school’s typically have relationship pipelines to company’s. This multi-pronged approach will give you much stronger chances of success in your endeavors and you can use it for life.

MAJ Markeith recommends the following next steps:

Talk to your school’s career advisors to take advantage of their pre-established reputation and or relationship pipeline to the company you wish to apply for so they can “present you,” vs going direct to the company yourself.
On linked in, join groups and befriend those already working in the company and role you wish to hold. Make friends. Keep in contact.

Aaron’s Answer

As someone who was once a freshman in college, I encourage you to start by learning the basics of the field you want to join. It's important to focus on what you enjoy and be mindful of the path you choose. In the financial field, there are many opportunities, so your interests will guide you. Remember, these suggestions can help you on your journey.

Aaron recommends the following next steps:

Get to meet new people. It doesnt matter where theyre from, what its important is to create your own support network wich you can relly on if you have any question related to your job or career
Download apps that helps you on your search. Such apps as Linkedin, Indeed, etc, can help introduce you on different companies as intern. Theres also different websites of different kind of institutions that usually helps new joiners or people who just graduated recently on their search.
Keep proactive. To be on a new enviorment could be really intimidating, on situations like this is normal to think that maybe you dont know enough to contribute, but any question, advice or suggestion its what shows to people this encouragement you have to keep learning,

Harrison,

As a finance professional who has hired multiple interns from Baruch over the past couple of decades, I can assure you that there are excellent opportunities ahead of you.
Baruch offers a unique opportunity in finance because of the campus in Manhattan and a large number of local alumni. The first step I recommend is contacting recent graduates of your school to ask them about their experiences. They can be found via your career office and LinkedIn. The key is not to ask for a job, but rather advice about how to think about building a career. At the same time, you can ask for similar guidance from older students at Baruch — what internships did they land and how did they find them? This combination is a great way to identify interesting positions that will be right for you.

Ana Laura’s Answer

Hi! In my experience if you keep looking, you'll find that some companies make it easier to get internships, and doing an internship there can make it much easier to get a full-time job with them later on. So, it's a good idea to focus on those companies, you can found it if you search on the web. Besides that, try to apply early, participate in networking events, and build your skills to improve your chances.
