Hi Samantha,

It's excellent that you're considering this early on because you're already in a strong position and don't have to wait until college to begin gaining experience. Finding "perfect psychology internships" is not the goal at this point; rather, the goal is to gain experience dealing with people, particularly in settings that build empathy, communication, and observation abilities.

Your local community is a great place to start. Consider volunteering at:
- Local schools or after-school programs (tutoring or helping younger students)
- Daycares or summer camps
- Community centers, churches, or youth groups
- Hospitals or clinics (some have teen volunteer programs)
If you’re interested in child psychology, working with kids is one of the best experiences you can get early on.

You can also check:
- Your school’s guidance counselor or notice board for opportunities
- Local organizations’ websites or social media pages
- Even simple outreach, asking, “Do you accept student volunteers?”

Since you haven't joined any clubs yet, this might be a wonderful opportunity to create or join one, such as a peer support group or a mental health awareness club. That shows initiative and provides you with leadership experience. A major factor to keep in mind is that consistency, not prestige, is what really counts. Regularly volunteering in a place where you are genuinely assisting people will educate you far more than trying to collect a variety of short experiences.

You’re starting early, which is a big advantage. If you focus on building real-world experience with people, you’ll naturally develop the skills that psychology is all about.

Best wishes!
