Xavier, below is a link to the US Department of State website which has a lot of info on student internships and fellowships, including a virtual option for those unable to be in Washington, D.C.
Most big cities have a form of an "International Affairs Forum" or something like it where people active in diplomacy give lectures and meet with people. I put the link for the Denver version of this below. It is called the Denver Council on Foreign Relations and I see that tomorrow (as I write this) an ambassador will be speaking on "Negotiating a World in Conflict". Often the organizations are free or low-cost for students. You can introduce yourself to the speakers and organizers. Often they will be helpful people to know and be willing to stay in touch and offer guidance.
Good luck to you.
