What type of internship should I get during my first summer after freshman year as an Environmental and Interior Design major?
Should I join a student association of interior designers? Should I get a mentor? How do I find interior design firms that are looking for interns ? #Spring26

I would say the answer to "should I get a mentor" is always "yes!" Joining clubs, signing up for professional networks locally and on LinkedIn, reaching out to people individually on LinkedIn. Some schools also have alumni mentor networks you can utilize.
I wouldn't ask specifically if they can mentor you until you build up enough rapport with them and you know they have expertise in areas you are interested in.

Dear Amina,
The Environmental and Interior Design major combines expertise in building systems with a focus on ecological responsibilities. My advice would be to reach out to your local government community and speak with the planning agency, the environmental planning, community conservation, and public health departments for internship opportunities.
I wish you the best of luck.
Best wishes
