How to balance sports, academics and job?
How hard is it to balance academics, a job and a sport in college? I am planning to pursue track and field in college as well as a biochem major. To pay it off, I do need a job, which may be tough in the face of sports and school. Does anyone have any input on this?

I will say, if you do try and do this you need a LOT of work life balance. You need to schedule perfectly when you need to do something and if you really need to do it. There will be a lot of sacrifice you will need to do such as not seeing friends and family as often because of this however.
The balance between work, school, and a sport can be more complex then people would assume, because if one of them falters then it could drastically change how you will need to do things. For example, say you work as a security guard, and a coworker who was supposed to take over after your shift never shows up then you are now late for practice or late for class. To make sure you keep this into account, you need to really plan ahead to make sure you can deal with this problem when it happens.

In college, I worked for my university's ITS Help Desk, was a member of the rowing team, and studied International Relations and Spanish. It can be a lot to juggle, but what worked best for me was to track all my obligations in a centralized planner. This helped me to identify conflicts or tight timelines so that I could plan ahead (such as completing an assignment early) or speak to my boss/coach/professor about my options (rescheduling an exam if I would be traveling to a sports competition on the original day).
Balancing school, work and sports also requires a lot of communication. I would recommend making sure your coaches, professors, and bosses all know about your other obligations. While some things may be fixed, making sure they are informed let's you work together with them to find where things can be flexible to help you do it all.
