Hi Gitzelle - While I did not study biology in college, my partner did! The most crucial piece of advice that transformed our ability to succeed in college was this:

Studying isn't HOMEWORK, it's a HABIT: Assignments like homework, are often tied to due dates, such that we work towards completing the assignment and then we forget what we learned. When we focus out time on completing projects, we often let our learning take a backseat. However, my peers and I found that we were most successful when we visualized our studying not as an assignment, but instead as part of our daily routines. For example, when my partner was in her first semester of Biochemistry, she devised a routine where before she went to the gym, she would go to the library (which was between her house and the gym). Just like how your daily routine may be to wake up, brush your teeth, and take a shower, her daily routine involved going to the library. Even if it was just for 30 or 40 minutes, every day she went to the library, she nurtured this habit. As a result, not only did her studying skills and knowledge of the material improve, but she gained confidence as she began to see herself as a better student.

This is just an example of what worked for her, but I would highly consider finding a routine that works for you. Every time you follow through with your study routine, you will learn more about what works best for you and your knowledge will grow.

I studied chemistry in college, and these tips helped me succeed:

- Study for a short time, then take a break to keep your mind fresh.
- Review your notes and explain what you learned in your own words.
- Attend class and ask the teacher questions if you're confused.
- Have confidence in yourself. Even tough subjects can be mastered.
- Make sure to rest, stay hydrated, and give your brain a chance to relax.
- Always remember: you've got this!
