What should I go to school for?

I am struggling to decide what to go to school for. I have a deep passion for the environment, love STEM and want to make a difference. People also love me and I them! I do not like big pharmacy or corporations. What degrees would suite someone who loves to be outside but also loves the lab, and has a passion for activism? I want deeply to make an impact on the world, but also make a modest wage, hopefully over $75k a year. I loved bio lab in community college but didn’t finish my AA and plan to go back to get my bachelors. Not great at math so environmental engineering is likely out. Any ideas?

I think environmental science has your name written all over it! Get a general science degree in bio or similar study (chemistry, physics, geology, meteorology, etc) and start working as soon as possible for a company that does field testing of environmental areas. I think with being in FL you should have an easy time finding one. Get hands on but also get nerdy in the lab and with data. I think this will be easy for you, I think $75k is a decent goal and if you find what you are good at up to double that.

Make sure you network! Meet people that do the same. Volunteer for environmental organizations that deal with conservation. This is the field where if you stick your neck out further, and make yourself known, it will have a bigger reward! If you have trouble with finding work or connections in bio volunteerism, also check out how you can do testing for construction, industrial, and urban areas as well. Something like tracking silt runoff is an easy way to get started. Taking soil samples, air samples, and water samples in areas that need it will pay off when you are getting started.
