As a CRNA, I can speak to that. The pathways for nurse practitioner and midwives will look a little different. To apply to CRNA school you will need to have graduated with a BSN and worked a minimum of one year full time in an ICU type environment (could also be neonatal ICU or pediatric ICU). CRNA programs are all now 36 month long doctoral (DNP) schools; you will not be able to work while in school. That’s longer than many NP programs but, trust me, it’s worth it. While you are in nursing school you should focus on a solid GPA, especially in science courses, to maximin your chances, because CRNA programs are highly competitive.
