Are there any work from home/hybrid part-time jobs that are legitimate that I can do while attending school at a business college?

I'm attending UHCL to earn a BS in accounting. I've already received an AAS in Business Management and an AS General. I'm taking a full course load online this summer and fall 2026. I'd like to earn some money from a job that is flexible on the hours I'd need to work as I have young children.

Hi there, great question. First, try reaching out to your career center at UHCL if you haven't already. They can connect you with others who have had similar experiences. Many students have worked as bookkeepers or in similar roles, which might offer flexibility depending on the employer.

Next, use LinkedIn to explore industries and companies where people with backgrounds like yours are working. Start by checking the UHCL LinkedIn page to see where alumni are employed. You can use this information for research and make connections with people from your college.

When reaching out, focus on learning about their roles and the type of work they do before asking about job opportunities. You can ask for recommendations on local companies or if they know anyone else you can connect with. Remember, it's important to seek advice and build connections, even if they can't offer you a job right away. This approach will provide valuable insights and open up new opportunities. Good luck!

Hi Sarrah,

Yes, there are legitimate work-from-home or hybrid part-time jobs that can work well while you’re in school and managing a family. The key is to focus on flexible, entry-level roles that don’t require a fixed full-time schedule.
Some good options to consider:

Remote administrative or virtual assistant roles – tasks like scheduling, data entry, email management
Customer support (chat or email-based) – many companies offer flexible shifts
Bookkeeping or accounting assistant roles – great since you’re studying accounting
Sales support or inside sales – flexible and often commission-friendly
Freelance work – such as data entry, social media support, or basic marketing tasks

To make sure opportunities are legitimate:

Apply through trusted platforms (LinkedIn, Indeed, company career sites)
Avoid jobs that ask for upfront payment or seem too good to be true
Look for clear job descriptions and verified companies

Since you already have a business background and are pursuing accounting, you’re in a strong position—especially for roles related to finance, admin support, or entry-level accounting.
The goal is to find something flexible now that also builds experience for your future career.
