Congratulations on your upcoming graduation. Making the transition to college can be exciting and also intimidating. Here's my advice to you for your summer break:
Minimize screen time, which is a known driver of stress

If your future college offers a summer orientation, attend it in person if you can, and pay attention.

Assess your study skills and think about how those will evolve for college. Here's one free resource that might help: https://www.collegeraptor.com/find-colleges/articles/tips-tools-advice/10-free-online-study-tools/

Once you are in college, make sure you take advantage of your professor's office hours. Go to them in person when you need help. It requires more effort than sending an email, but it's worth it.

I would recommend living on campus if you can. It's convenient and will make it easier for you to build connections in your new community. Best of luck!

Hi Brynn,
a good way to prevent burnout is to keep a healthy balance between school and your personal life.
Interacting with other people (friends, classmates, or family) helps reduce stress and gives your mind a break. Also having hobbies such as sports or any activity you enjoy is also very helpful because it allows you to relax and recharge.

For college, living on campus can be worth because it makes it easier to meet people and build friendships. Being around classmates can also make studying and managing schoolwork easier since you can support each other.

I wish you much success !

Hi Brynn,

I remember feeling the same way at this stage, and honestly, stressing about the future usually affects you more than the future itself ever will. You’ll figure things out as they come, so try not to overthink everything.

For burnout, make sure you get enough sleep, take breaks, go on walks, and give yourself time to clear your mind. Also, remind yourself that you can only do so much, and if multiple degrees are worth it to you, then the tradeoff is worth it too.

As for living on campus, I think it’s worth it if it’s affordable. But if you can stay home and commute comfortably, I’d probably do that instead to save money and reduce stress. If you already plan on living away from home, though, on campus is usually better than off campus, especially your first year! You got this!
