How do you balance work, college, and hobbies?

I wonder how others organize their schedule to make time for their hobbies.

Rachel’s Answer

Have you heard of the rocks, pebbles, and sand metaphor? The jar is your time, the rocks are non-negotiable priorities (such as health), the pebbles are important but less significant priorities (such as hobbies), and the sand is trivial things (such as TV). If you fill your time with pebbles and sand, you won't have room for the rocks. So the order is: Rocks, pebbles, and sand.

Depending on the particulars of your circumstances (if you must work to support yourself, or if you're mostly looking for experience), you might put full-time college in your jar first, part-time work second, then hobbies third. When I was in college, several of my classmates were full-time students and part-time workers (usually on campus or at local restaurants/stores). Hobbies were squeezed into their free time. You might take some inspiration from them, but first you have to determine what your rocks, pebbles, and sand are.

Alba’s Answer

A wise person once said that time and money are always available if you prioritize them. This is true. You can find time in the 24 hours of each day and on weekends to fit everything in.

Planning and creating a calendar can help. Sometimes, sleeping less is necessary if it balances out.
Nowadays, you can multitask, like exercising while listening to a lecture or audiobook.
Don’t let the idea of doing it all overwhelm you. Instead, plan, prepare an organized calendar, prioritize your tasks daily, say no when needed, and stay focused.
You can manage it all!
