Being a first-gen college student already takes a lot of effort, so don’t feel like you need to have everything figured out at once. Try to stay organized with your classes, consider soccer as something that helps you de-stress, talking to professors, and looking for internships when you’re ready. Give yourself room to rest too

Balancing schoolwork and sports requires a strong mindset. With a degree in civil engineering and college lacrosse experience, I understand the stress of managing time. My main advice is to prioritize school and career. You can still do both, but you might need to give up some other activities. Creating a daily schedule helped me a lot. Start with your class schedule, then add your sports schedule, including practices, games, training, and travel. Next, include all major due dates and test dates, which you should get during syllabus week. After that, set aside time for studying, homework, and, importantly, personal relaxation. Sports should be an outlet, but they can add stress, so it's crucial to take breaks from both sports and schoolwork to relax, even if just for a short time. This helps prevent burnout from sports and tough courses.
Being organized helped me succeed, and it's a valuable skill to develop. I still use this approach to stay active, succeed in my career, and enjoy time with friends and family, even after six years in the professional world.
Good luck with your soccer and future career!

As a first gen student myself - the best way I was able to stay successful is time management! So maintaining an organized schedule/agenda on your classes, homework, and other priorities is key. Also you always need to make time for yourself to keep yourself motivated so whether that be buying a good coffee to study or taking a night in to watch your favorite movies :)
