Earning a full scholarship in England or Germany is a great goal. To succeed, focus on doing well in your studies, scoring high on English tests, and gathering strong recommendation letters. A clear personal statement and meaningful extracurricular activities can also make a big difference. Be sure to check each scholarship's requirements, as they are competitive and limited. Starting early, keeping a good academic record, and applying to both government and university funding options can boost your chances.

Begin your applications 6 to 12 months before starting university, usually in your last year of high school. Deadlines are often from October to March. In England, scholarships are tough to get because tuition is high. In Germany, education is more accessible even without a scholarship, but you still need to show you can cover living expenses for your visa.

Hi Nora,

I can give you some information about studying in Germany:

Generally, university studies in Germany are tuition-free. You only pay a smallish administrative fee (EURO 100-400) that usually includes a public transport ticket. You do have to pay for living expenses though, i.e. housing, food, toiletries, books, entertainment etc. There are some exceptions to the free education though, namely universities in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg that charge tuition from international students.

To get a student visa, you will need to show that you have the financial means for at least 1 year of studies. For this purpose, you'll have to fund a blocked account with about EURO12000. The money will be released to you gradually throughout the year.

Because universities are free, undergraduate scholarships are not as common as they are e.g. in the US. For international students, postgraduate scholarships are more common. For Germany, most international scholarships are through the DAAD or the European Union (EU). There are also smaller organizations that offer scholarships. Some have a narrow focus and it's a matter of finding the right fit for you.

Before you decide in which country or at which university you want to study, I would recommend that you decide on a major or at least narrow it down to a general direction. Next, you need to find out what the admission criteria are. Some majors like medicine or pharmacy are super competitive and you'll need almost perfect grades. Others might have moderate or no restrictions.

Generally, if you want to study in Germany I would recommend that you start learning German. There are programs in English, but you'll still do much better in your studies and in general life if you speak the language.

You also need to find out if your school-leaving certificate is considered equivalent to a German school-leaving certificate. If it is not you may have to attend a "Studiencolleg" before you can be admitted to university.
