Shout out to the professional dancers in the world! How have you dealt with the scariest that come with the career (ex. burn out, Unfulfillment, inconsistency)

I'm currently a twelfth grader and recently got accepted to college where I will be Majoring in dance. While I can't imagine pursuing anything but dance, I'm really nervous for what comes after; entering the career world. It's scary to think that there's a possibility of burning out, or feeling unfulfilled. Along with that, it's scary to think of an inconsistent routine, a long with constant stress. That was a lot, but i'd appreciate some advice or words of encouragement that helps you.

Lillian;

I have two left feet, so i couldn't even imagine the competition and discipline required to be a professional dancer. I am positive though it takes a great amount of commitment and time to be recognized in the field. Kind of like professional athletes, only 10% of those who train end up making a living as professional dancers. Many end up opening dance studio's or becoming choreographers, and even with that very few make a living in these professions.

I am not making this statement to discourage you. I am making this as a statement of fact. So it is very important that you have a plan B. Maybe your plan B is a minor in Business and Finance or Business Management so that while you are auditioning and looking for that professional career maybe you open that Dance Studio.

Additionally, consider the physicality and stress dance places on your body and joints. One severe injury could blow your entire plan out of the water. Research real examples: Lauren Post (American Ballet Theatre), Dani Dyer and Jamie Laing (Strictly Come Dancing)

Shoot for the stars but have a back up plan.
