Thiago’s Answer

Hi Jeami,

Study abroad can be a very rewarding and fulfilling experience. You will have the opportunity to experience a new culture, to make new friends, to see live in a different perspective and sometimes to even learn a new language.

As a former international student, I have been through this process six years ago. Originally from Brazil, I went to Australia to do a ESL program and, even with some challenges, I had a fantastic time.

Some things that make my experience so rewarding:

Thiago recommends the following next steps:

I was opened to learn and respect new cultures and lifestyle. During my course, I met people from all corners of the World. I learnt so much from they and likewise. My view of things and networking improved significantly.
Get involve with the community. Join a club, do some volunteer work or even find a part-time job.
Student mindset. Be ready to learn something new everyday. From the way people greet each other to eating habits - every single country is different.
Stop the comparison between your cultured the new one you are emerging in. Thoughts like that aren't constructive and will hold you back .
Find the right place for you - do tons of researches about countries and places to do your studies. Engage with students there. Speak with people. After that, you'll find the right direction for you.

Georgi’s Answer

Definitely. I have studied in London for 6 years before returning to Bulgaria. This experience changed my life perspective and overall my life for the better.

This will still be a great investment in yourself that will build your confidence and all sorts of other soft skills. I have never heard of someone wishing they stayed local for studies instead of going abroad.

Jessica’s Answer

Absolutely! I studied abroad in both Poland and Austria. Both changed my life! I can't say one negative thing about the experience (perhaps apart from missing Chick-fil-A, speeding and Target). If you can... do it!

Veronica’s Answer

Hi Jeami,

Studying abroad will definitely open your mind to new cultures, new people, new ideas and new friends. Definitely recommend taking a chance as it is going to be the experience of a lifetime.

I agree with Thiago, be ready to learn something new every day and to come back home as a different person from the one that left.

Katrina’s Answer

Not studying abroad is a pretty big regret of mine. I have friends and family that have done it and all of them had an incredible experience and feel like they took so much out of it that can be applied both professionally and personally. If you feel like it is something that you may like to do and you can make the funds work I would take a leap of faith and do it!

Sarah’s Answer

It's one of my most favorite college experiences! It taught me a lot about working with others, new cultures, taught independence and how getting out of our comfort zone can lead to great things. I'll always think back on the summer I studied in Rome as a life-changing summer. If you can swing it financially - do it!
