Alex’s Answer

GPA is going to be huge as along with ACT/SAT scores. Don't underestimate the application as this could help with a low GPA or test score.

Paul’s Answer

Hi Sonnet,

I believe an application is looked at to see a screenshot or short story of the applicant's important life events. With that said, ACT and GPA are both very important standardized statistics used for comparison with GPA weighing a bit more. I honestly think the short essays and the experiences listed are what truly paint your application with color while the ACT and GPA is more of a black-and-white scheme used for comparison to the next application in the stack.

Sincerely,

Paul

Barry’s Answer

Colleges and universities evaluate students on a number of factors. Both GPA and test scores, as well as things like volunteer activities, demonstrated leadership, and extra-curricular activities like sports. Your personal statement will also be an important factor. All of that to say, there's no "number one" thing every college or university uses, but your GPA is important because it can be a limiting factor if it indicates potential challenges to academic success in college.
