Lee’s Answer

Great Question! Choose something that had a big impact on your life. Tell a great story about your life; struggles that you had to overcome.

Jose’s Answer

Great question. I am not an expert in this space but also agree that personal stories may display your unique story and what you can bring to the organization. Schools would love to hear about how you have overcome obstacles in life and the diversity, and resilience that you can bring. As an example, I shared my personal story as an immigrant in the US and that meant for me in pursing higher education.

John’s Answer

Good question! Personal stories that demonstrate how something taught you a lesson or how you changed are best. What ignites your passion? What happened in your life to inspire that passion?

Jennifer’s Answer

Great question! Pick stories that although may not seem interesting are pivotal in your development as a person. Choose to tell the stories that have shaped you, your college desires, and professional aspirations. Always paint a picture! Make your essays engaging!

Sheila’s Answer

Hello Hannah: There is no right or wrong answer to your question. I suggest that you are "honest" in whatever you write about. You want to be authentic because if granted an interview, you will be asked about your essay.

A few things you could write about are volunteerism (school, church, mission trips, work, etc.), travel, what you are passionate about, successes you've experienced, struggles you've experienced and, goals (short & long-term), etc.

When my two (2) young adults were in school they wrote about how they served as a Sunday School Teacher of 1st graders, mission trips, school clubs trips abroad, and People to People they participated in such as Japan, France, Italy, UK (England, Ireland, Scotland), Honduras, and Cozumel. Don't forget to include Girls Scouts, babysitting, etc.

These are just a sampling of items to help trigger your thoughts. Get your pad and pen ready and go get em. You can do this.  :)

Good Luck to You!
