BEVERLEY’s Answer

You can pull up a degree plan for a university to see the complete curriculum. This will include basic core courses and engineering courses. The core curriculum or body of knowledge may be somewhat different in different states.

Scot’s Answer

The core beginner courses would be calculus, chemistry, and physics. These core classes are taken by most engineering students, not just the ME students. It is a good foundation that can be transferred to other engineering disciplines if needed. The next set of ME specific courses would be hard mechanics (statics, dynamics) and soft mechanics (thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluids). Also, very important would be CAD (Computer Aided Design) classes. Upper class courses would include more design related team projects.

Michael’s Answer

The best solution as already mentioned is to pull up a degree plan for a mechanical engineering degree at a university you are interested in. However, the typical type of classes for mechanical engineer students are heavily math and science based. Examples include calculus, physics, statics, materials, and more detailed engineering classes.
