They consult and collaborate with other healthcare professionals for the benefit of the patients care. They are responsible for patient care and treatments, the nurses must document all care rendered, provide teaching for both patients as well as their families. Lacey’s Answer

On a step-down ICU floor in California the nurse to patient ratio is supposed to be 1:3. Given that my day should be something like this:
7am punch in and get assignment
705-715am floor huddle
715-745am nursing report hand off
745-830am round on patients, take vitals, head to toe assessments, glucose checks
830-930am morning medications
10am tempo/report to case manager
1030am charting
1130am lunchtime glucose checks and vitals
10am-530pm depending on my case load the middle of my day is filled with wound care, tracheostomy care, calling doctors and family, turning my patient every 2 hours, getting my patients up to walk post surgery, sending my patients to tests or procedures, hanging piggyback medications, responding to my patients call lights and needs, etc.
530pm dinner time glucose checks and vitals
600pm empty all tubes and drains, chart all intake and out put for patients, hang TPN and tube feedings
700-715pm floor huddle
715-745pm nursing hand off report

Although that list probably seems overwhelming, the better you are at time management the better your day will be. Nurses are always busy but nursing is a team effort. There is always people around to support you.
