Dallas’s Answer

You can take welding classes through trade schools.

I would recommend finding a welder in your area or a facility that would be willing to properly train you. They typically will not sugar coat poor weld quality and push you to perform at industry standards.

Learn to read a tape measure, find center of measurements. Learn “lay out” and how to read blue prints.

Learn to perform tasks while wearing personal protective equipment (ppe) and keep on at ALL times. If glasses fog up try a different design.

Show up with your own ppe looks good

Eric’s Answer

Print reading and metallurgy classes are a must. I would recommend basic machining classes if you intend to do any shop work or maintainence work. Basic geometry and trigonometry classes will be a big help with complicated layouts.

There are so many different areas and approaches you can take In the welding field so the more variation you take in classes the more doors you will open up to find the area that best suits your skills and interests.

Learn as many different welding processes as possible.
